Candle Care

- Always burn your candles responsibly. Do not leave unattended, especially around children and pets. Keep away from flammable materials. Always burn on a level, heat-resistant surface. Use containers for votive candles and plates or holders for pillar candles. Never try to move or carry your candle while it is burning.

- When burning your container candle for the first time, always allow it to burn until the wax liquefies across the entire surface of the candle. This will prevent “tunneling” down the center. Candles have a “memory” and will only burn to the point you burned them the first time.

- Always burn your candles for approximately 4 hours at a time. This gives your candle the best burn. Over-burning causes your candle to overheat and evaporate faster, thereby lowering the overall burn time. Under-burning candles creates “tunneling.”

- Keep your candles from drafts as this can cause uneven burning, dripping, and smoking.

- ALWAYS keep your wicks trimmed to ¼”. This gives the best burn, and reduces smoking and excess flame height, although all candles will produce a small amount of smoke, especially highly-fragranced candles. To get the best burn for your money, burn candles 4 hours at a time, extinguish, let harden, trim wicks to ¼”, then re-light if desired.

- If your container does become somewhat sooty, clean with a damp paper towel or a disinfectant wipe. Don’t re-light candle until container is dry as it may cause cracking.

- Our zinc-core wicks are designed to produce a carbon “mushroom” cap at the top as they burn. This is normal and helps to radiate heat evenly across the surface of the candle. This can be minimized by keeping wicks trimmed to ¼ ” at all times.

- To reduce fading, never place your candles in direct sunlight.

-Never burn your candle in a cracked, scratched, or chipped container because the heat could cause the glass to shatter.

- Wicks are best trimmed with a wick cutter made for this purpose. Not only will it efficiently trim your wick, but will hold the clippings while you safely transport them to the garbage can. Make sure wick trimmings are no longer hot before disposal. Wick trimmers also keep most wick debris from falling back into your container.

- Always keep the flame away from the sides of the container. If a wick becomes off-center, gently reposition it to the center or to it’s original placement using a toothpick or icepick.

- Never burn your candle all the way down to the bottom. This could cause a container to shatter or a pillar candle to burn through to the surface it is resting on. Burn container candles no further than ½” from the bottom of the container. Burn pillar candles no further than 1” from the bottom.

- Always use caution when blowing out your candles. Cup your hand around the rim of the container and gently blow, so as not to cause the melted wax to splatter. However, candles are best extinguished using a candle snuffer.

- Always allow your container candle to cool completely before placing the lid back on it. NEVER EXTINGUISH YOUR CANDLE BY PLACING THE LID ON IT!

- You can remove spilled or splattered wax from solid surfaces by allowing the wax to dry then gently scraping off the excess. On some surfaces, you can place an absorbent cloth over the remaining wax and gently iron over it with a warm, never hot, iron. Commercial products, such as WAX LIFTER also work well to remove wax from surfaces.

- For refilling purposes, leftover wax can be removed and containers cleaned by disposing of hot wax the last time you burn the candle to within ½” from the bottom by pouring it into a good garbage bag. USE POT HOLDERS! Immediately wipe container well with clean paper towels. Most of the excess wax and also the wicks usually can be wiped away. Then either hand-wash your containers in hot, soapy water, or Fayette Candle Factory glass containers can be run through a dishwasher. IF you let your wax harden after the last burn, all FCF GLASS containers can be put into a 200-degree oven to melt the excess hard wax. Always put the containers on a pan to prevent spillage in your oven. Then continue to pour out and clean as above.

- NEVER melt the excess wax in your container in a microwave oven as it may heat unevenly and shatter. Also, the metal stabilizer in the wick will cause your microwave to “arc.”

- All non-glass containers must be cleaned the last time you burn them before they harden since it may be unsafe to put them into an oven. This would include any metal, porcelain, ceramic, or other candle containers.

Note: All wicks presently manufactured in the U.S.A do not contain lead. We buy our wicks from American companies! We use pure paraffin wax, which is free from impurities. We also use a soft one-pour wax for all our container candles which produces the best fragrance retention.

Enjoy your candles and always burn responsibly! Fayette Candle Factory accepts no responsibility for accidental mishaps, carelessness which causes property damage or injury, or other misuse of our candles.
